Gear housing leak 99 gen 2

Any one do one w taking gear off cam and not pulling cam?
does oil pan need to come off to do properly?

I have done a few, but always taken the cam out. I've never removed the oil pan though, the gear housing has come out and back in ok, with the pan still in place.
