Front Mounted Hitch
Hi,
Any of you folks have any experience with front mounted hitches?
I have a 2004 2500 Heavy Duty. I will be pulling a 33 foot fifth wheel, and want to carry a motorcycle as well. The options are to mount a hitch for a carrier on the back of the 5iver, or mount a hitch for the carrier on the front of the truck.
Total weight for the carrier and bike will be about 500 pounds.
Thanks in advance.

I think you could buy a front hitch that would hold it. If you have a 2wd, the extra weight will make the alignment go all out of whack. The 4x4 will not have this problem.

Re:Front Mounted Hitch
Hey Dodgeball WELCOME!! I haven't seen too many Rams with a hitch on the front but I don't see why not. As far as the alignment on a 2wd I do not see where it would be a problem. We don't have the same suspension as "some other trucks".
Again, welcome to the site.

Don't know the size of the bike you want to haul....but having haul many bikes over the years I would lean toward a rear mount thats attached to your trailer frame with a long low ramp and good strap attachments

Well I'll throw my .02 in. First there are several company's out there that can supply you with a front mounted reciever. There are also, several front bumpers that have a reciever built in. The weight thing bothers me, I don't think it would be a good ideal, 2wd or 4wd, to hang 5oolbs on the front end. Common sence kind of thing, you see how much the rear squats with a 500lb tounge weight, and it is built to handle it. Also, this motorcycle is going to be sitting up front while the fifth wheel is in back, that doesn't seem very smart? You would be blocking alot of radiator, inter cooler, oil cooler, condinser, trany cooler at a time when the load on the truck is at it's greatest. Maybe it's just me?? But that don't sound right.

I have to agree with ynot,I have had front hitches on two trucks for bicycles, put boat in water when I had a large overhead on and to use a front winch I used to have,I would also say that a motorcycle would be to much and in summer block to much wind when towing, anyway hope this helps and goodluck, Rick

If you plan on staying with this setup then I would sugest that you if yours is the long bed have a bed mounted rail and ramp installed. The only problem with this is that you state you have a 2500 and that woulf put you over weight for your bed weight.
