fridge for my RV

My dometic fidge has bit the dust. Its 20 years old. I want to repalce it with a regular 120 volt house fridge of the same size. I have 120 volt power where ever I go camping and dont need the 12 volt and gas operation. Plus, it would save me a lot of $$$. Anyone done this? Any issues with amp draw? It's going in my 1984 Avion 34 ft. TT. Also, any place online that sells parts for the older aluminum avions? I need a new front window rock shield/awning.

I did that with my10 foot pop-up. Been in there two years without a problem.
They don't have the latch that prevents them from opening when travelling or preventing them from closing during storage, but then again......... It only cost me $99 Canadian

Lowes has them a better selection than anyone else here, you might need a 4x4 post to level it and secure down, I just installed one on a motorhome the hardest thing is taking out the old one.

look at the fridgdare model the doors you find harder to open and closes tighter
they came in white/ black and brown, the amps was not a issue and the fridge stays cold for 18 hrs. after unplugged. be sure you plug off the gas lines and check with soapy water

Thanks! I'll need to pull my old one out and check the demesions. I have a 34 foot avion with aluminum shell so the curvature may limit the size depending on how deep the fridges are.

Good luck on the pulling out part, like I said that was the toughest part for me.

The braces you will need is where the gas and elec hook up are outside compartment, you will not get a perfect fit so what I did was took a nice piece of trim wood "stain or paint" and you can tell it has a smal gap in between, I will have to say this might be one of my better jobs and easier to.

One thing to make sure is the door has tight closer, I installed this on a fleetwood bounder.

DeereNut, here is an outfit that remanufactures absorption cooling units with new parts. http://www.rvmobile.com/
I've never used them before but I'm sure they're bound to be cheaper than a new fridge. Probably easier to replace just the Ammonia Cooling Unit than shoehorning a non-RV 'fridge into the hole.

And they're not made in CHINA!
