Fridge Fires

Hi All,

had my fiver home before the weekend of camping, started th fridge on propane, and about 5 minutes later I never heard the wife yelling like this before Smoke was coming from the bottom of the fridge, she turned the gas off, and there was some flames from the outer door. I put 2 shots of Fire Ext in the cavity and franticly checked to see if it got in the walls.

As it turns out the danage was only superficial, However there is a recall on the Norcold fridge for a leaky gas valve which could cause fire.

Please check your fridges to see if it is in the s/n range...

Happy Camping

The Norcold fridges in the recall are between 1987 and 1995 and captures most of the models.

The website is www.norcold.com/recalls.cfm

The strange thing up here in Canada is that NONE of the norcold service dealers knew about the recall and was asking US to send them the paperwork

These are the same people that are selling used trailers as well, pretty dissappointing

It would be wise to keep and eye on your fivers recalls.

vtailflyer, Thanks for the heads up. Guess Monday I'll call and get mine in for the recall.

Wow glad you got that fire put out in time.

I had a similar experience in a camper I had a few years ago. My wife and I would spend the day on the boat, then return in the evening to our campsite.

For some odd reason we changed that habit and came in around 2pm, I walked around the camper and saw 10 inch flames coming out of the water heater.

Put the fire out and then realized that if we had not come back early, we would have found nothing but ashes when we returned.

Turned out to be a bad pilot line, easy fix.
