Flip up ramps or flat ramps?

Im in the process of buying a new trailer now since i didnt think i was gonna get what i was asking for my old GN...i had a 20+5 with stand up ramps...it seems to be everywhere i search that all the trailers now are going to with fold down ramps that make it flat the whole length of trailer....

my question is what you guys like better...it seems like the fold up ramps work best because i can fill the trailer with 2 cars and not have to worry bout folding ramps flat? what you guys run with

I liked the fold down ramps and you can just add and carry the straps to hold the ramps up . keep the straps in the tool box or hang them somewhere on the trailer to use when needed

I like the detachable slide in/out the rear kind. You get to use the whole bed and over hang. They are easier to handle. If you don't need the ramps you can leave them behind and save in weight. You can use the ramps separately off the trailer. I have 8 foot heavy mesh ones that can be used on either side so one side has guides.

This is what I did for mine, they tie into the stake pockets and can be moved F to R and or onto the flatbed truck. The end of the ramps hook over the bed rails..

Great Idea having the ramps in the stake pockets. One thing people with fold up ramps have problems with is that the back of the trailer is too low and tend to bottom out.
I for my part am looking for a trailer too and for the price I have to pay here in Canada for a good trailer I can get a hydraulic Dovetail trailer in Texas I only have to go get it from there.
What's the mirror for atop your frame for?

Yeti,

Those are back-up lights. they are tied into the b/u circuit or you can flip a switch on top of the trailer junction box and they will stay on all of the time.. great for checking loads or backing up.

I also did a reverse beaver-tail on the trailer to cut down on the drag that you mentioned..

Did the same on the bumper as well:

I bought a Circle D 20' 5' with the fold-flat ramps. There are also straps so the ramps can be flipped up. The flat ramp design is nice for hauling hay. However, as was mentioned, it is easy to hang up the rear of the trailer when crossing waterways and such. Really good trailer so far!

If I had the funds a hydraulic Dovetail would be the #1 choice,my present trailer has fold up ramps that will lay on the trailer or up 90 degrees with tie bar,and a manual pivoting dove,I recently got a good buy on a 20 + 5 fixed dove, tried to load a trans am on it and had to use boards and short story .I sold it and rebuilt my 1998 trailer.Hydraulic Dovetail looks like the cats meow to me.

yeah hydro dovetail are nice but pricey...and i worry about the empty wieght since i have a 2500 and those goes for any trailer with dual tandems as well

my old 20+5 was 5300lbs and 25+5 dual tandems are over 7000lbs which is what im worried about

I have fold up ramps on my 20/5 and if i'm hauling somthing that won't let my ramps fold all the way down ( which is most of the time ) i welded a couple pins on the ramps and made some bars to atach and hold them strait up.

it works good for square bales of hay/straw for a back stop also.

PHHSST! Ramps are old school! Get a tilt deck!

HAha jsut kiddin, while really handy a tilt deck isn't always in the budget. Personally I like would prefer stow away ramps so that you can hang a load off the back.
