Estimated MPG?

Well, I wont be hauling anything big, but this weekend Ill be driving from NC To SE Texas with a U-Haul Car Carrier and my wifes Infinti J30 on it. Im guessing about a 5-6K Load. Just wondering what yall might guess my fuel economy will be like. First halfways decent load Ive put on the truck, so Im not sure if the beast will even know if something is behind it. Anyhow, I get about 20 MPG on the highway unloaded. Thanks.

I'll guess 12 to 13.5 if you stay under 70 mph.

You know I don't know how much weight effects the mpg because when I'm towing, I don't feel like I'm using any more fuel then driving unloaded to maintain speed. Then again, it does take a lot longer to get to the speed I want to maintain.

I guess, I'm bad at taking a guess at mpg. All I can tell you is that when I towed this past Saturday, I was pulling about 13K lbs on level ground and got 8mpg. I thought I was going to do better because once I got to speed it really didn't take any more pedal then I normally give to maintain, but boy was I wrong.

If you start out in NC going west on I-40 the moutains in NC and TN will probably start you out about 5 mpg . Try to pay cash buying fuel . It'll save you 5 cents per gallon or more . Last I knew Flying J will give the cash price using a credit card at the RV pumps out front but charges more at the truck diesel pumps . Fleet owners have claimed they get lower mpg using Flying J fuel . I fuel mostly at Pilot because everything in the store at Flying J is overpriced too .Try to get as much fuel as you can in TN and top off before getting into TX .

I pulled a 30' toy hauler with my 03 S.O. w/4.10's from NW Ohio to Jax, NC and averaged 9.6 when I got to the house. normally got about 18. the grade changes were brutal most of the way.

Its a pretty flat route. I take 95 south to 20 and go down through atlanta to I-10 and follow the coast over. The only hills are in Georgia on 20. Not bad just rolling hills. I have air bags in the back, yall think I hsould inflate them at all. I havent towed a lot and none with my truck yet, so I dont know how it will ride, or if this load even warrants air in the bags. Thanks fo yalls help.

its up to you if you want to inflate your bags or not? you might want to to level the truck out, or if your gonna be driving at night youd want it leveled out so your light are shining on the road instead of coon hunting....
