It's legal in Texas to pull doubles. The first MUST be a 5th wheel hitch, with brakes, and the second can be on a ball. 53 foot maximum combined trailer length. Pull mine double. Cops see me all the time and keep going the other direction.

Truly bad info, even though it has no relevence to this thread. Any combo is allowed in TX up to 65 feet total length. Head out to west TX during hunting season and see how many jeeps are being pulled behind TTs, flatbeds with ATVs behind TTs, etc. I once saw an old pickup bed that had been made into a trailer with a gooseneck ball installed pulling a gooseneck horse trailer.

Sounds like the only "Bad Info" was the length he specified.

Seems 65' is the pretty common maximum length in most states...

OK, here is the reference for length and combination. Show me a TX reg that states the first trailer must be a 5er.

Page 153,

d. No combination of vehicles, other than a trucktractor-trailer combination may exceed 65 feet.

5. Vehicle Combinations. No passenger vehicle or other motor vehicle with an unloaded weight of less than 2,500 pounds may be coupled with more than one other vehicle. Not more than three vehicles may be operated in a combination.

Your link is for a teaching guide. Doesn't contain laws at all. I have the bookmark for it somewhere.

So the official Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook doesn't reflect Texas law? ROTFLMAO

Since you are out there in the flatlands of east TX don't tell me you have never seen a boat being pulled behind another boat, both on ball hitches.

I have never had the need to pull doubles. However TX DOT told me the first trailer was required to be a 5er or gn.......just what I was told......I know of no regs pertaining to towing doubles. Out by far West TX.
