Multiple Trailers...

I recently saw the post of the CTD pulling two trailers... I've thought about putting my small motorcycle trailer (1500 lbs) behind a horse trailer (~8k lbs). I assume that would require a class A license with a T (multiple trailer) endorsement, am I correct? If so, what's the process of getting the license and endorsement?

I'm in the military, so moves require moving the Dodge, the horses, my motorcycles, and my girlfriends passat. Right now we're planning on pulling the motorcycles behing the passat, and pulling the horses with the Dodge, but it would be easier (and way cool) to pull both with the Dodge.

Is the horse trailer a bumper pull or 5th wheel/gooseneck?

In Arizona, multiple trailers are legal as long as the primary trailer is a 5th wheel or gooseneck, and the combined length is within a certain limit (65 ft).

Here is a good link for info:

About half of the states don't allow doubles unless your commercially licensed with proper authority and insurance

I sometimes pull a double in states that disallow it......but I'm going in for storm cleanup so I'll pull a flatbed with a skid steer on it and a Chipper hooked behind the flatbed.....I have been stopped but after telling them what I'm doing they let me go....I had one officer inspect my second trailer setup and found nothing wrong with it.....and I'm also commerical

I saw a dually pulling a 5th wheel with a 25ft enclosed trailer on the back of the 5er shut down at the Florida state line weight station once he was Illegal and over length so they told him he needed to drop one trailer if he wanted to travel in Florida

Missouri, you can tow double. But don't even think about backing up...

If you happen to travel north to Alberta, you can go double, but avoid BC like the plague, they're insane about their RV/loading/towing laws; if everything is not perfect according to their standards, you' ll be parked.

BC = British Columbia or Bring Cash.

They stopped me and safety inspected the truck and trailer for 3 hours! The longer they inspected the more they tried to find since they weren't finding anything.

The young dude kept saying he was certain I would have violations since I was from Sask.

I actually drove away after he said he needed to recheck some of the items of concern. I told him he has held me up long enough and to send his boss after me.

Never saw him again. I bet he was supposed to have something on me for all the time he spent.

Watch out pulling doubles on that short stretch of I-15 thru AZ. As mentioned, its 65ft...I was 67 ft with doubles and paid over $300.00 to go into NV thru that short stretch.

I tow double hay trailers at various times in the Summer, without any problems. It's a fairly common sight on Wyoming highways. Never been stopped.

Talking Those with reds plates

Yes the red licence plate is known for being a danger plate. Yes we only allow those that have the possability of being good drivers to drive. The roads in AB are 2 ' wider and therefore easeier to pull longer loads on. The roads in AB are mostly straight and when they curve the drivers slow down somthing terrable and when they get into BC they are lost. I had to pass a few of the danger plates today.
