auto towing

got rid of my 2001 6 speed and now have a 2005 automatic 325/610. not sure how to use the transmision while driving. what are the rules of the tow/haul button and when people speak of "locking" out overdrive what does this mean? i assume it means using the tow/haul button. i pull a 19' airstream that weighs in wet no more than 4500 lbs.

thanks for your help,

I have towed 7000 with out useing tow haul button and I can't see why thier would be anything to worry about with 4500. I only lock out when trans is searching back and forth to find a gear to save wear and tear on trans. My guess is with only 4500 lbs that will not happen very often maybe in the mountions.

I pull my 40ft horse trailer (picture in my gallery) and I don't use the tow/haul and the truck does just fine. The only time I use tow/haul is when I'm goin up steep hills and when I'm in stop and go traffic.

The 04.5's lockout overdrive and the tow/haul on the 05's does not. I use it all the time even empty. It is nice to have the tc holding back and staying locked in slowing down.

towing

well from what i understand then i will not need the tow/haul with only the 4500 lbs unless pulling up steep grades or if my transmission keeps shifting and searching for gears. in stop and go in the city it sounds like i will need to use the tow/haul. my truck was made december 04 so it is not a 4.5.

sound like i got it right?

thanks

At 4500lbs I doubt you will even feel the trailer behind you no matter what mode you have the tranny in .

Like a flea on a dogs back.

4500lbs should be no problem. Most of it has to do with the speed you are traveling when towing. If the tranny is NOT hunting for a gear then just let it go and don't worry about it. If it is hunting then either slow down about 5mph and let it lock in and or push the Tow/Haul button which should cause the tranny to change **** points and either down shift and or finally find itself and lock up.
Give 500 miles prior to towing and then take it easy for the first 1k miles. After that " Drive it Like You Stole it" and get that off your face

wonder why i feel so good about my life when i drive this truck!!

the only other question i have is about all these comments about "dogs, ticks, fleas, drive it like you stold it." sounds like something jeff foxworthy might be interested in.
