Another Trailer Tire Thread...
Another Trailer Tire Thread...
I'm a little reluctant to start another trailer tire thread, but need some opinions on Maxxis tires.
I took delivery of our first TT a few weeks ago and the other day I noticed a 3 inch crack in the sidewall of a tire (Milestar ST 225/75D-15). I may have put 200 miles on the trailer since delivery. Anyway, after getting the tire off, I took off the spare to swap it out and noticed that it not only had cracks, but a plug in it as well. The dealer is non-responsive so I contacted TireCo directly from one of these forums. They will re-imburse me on any tires I send back that are deemed to have defects (or so they say).
I have been doing a lot of reading/researching and have definately scratched Carlisle's off the list, but am curious about the Maxxis M8008 10 ply radial and would like to hear from anyone that has used them. The Goodyear Marathons sound like a hit or miss...some people like them, others not. My concern is that at 8,500lbs dry, once loaded the D rated Marathons at 2,450 don't leave much wiggle room. I really feel I should be on an E rated tire.
We're preparing to do across country trip in a couple weeks and I would rather not spend any time on the side of an Interstate swapping tires.
I'd appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I installed Cooper ST225/75R15 load range E. 5 of them cost me $783.79 which included metal valve stem, high speed balance. These tires are made in the USA the place I bought them does big rigs. The owner owns a 5th wheel and this is what he has on his rig.
Cooper stopped production on their ST rated tires as Firestone/BFG. One problem with those 15" wheels is not many are rated for 80 psi. 16" LT E tires and 16" wheels will eliminate ST related tire problems on thse heavy trailers.
I've been running with Carlisle's for 3 years now no problems. Tire wear and all have been real good. Here in Illinois we have to drive at least 2 hours on way to get to decent water. We usually go to La Crosse WI (200 miles) every other weekend. I have read a few threads on them and must have missed the real bad reviews. I would'nt scratch them off the list IMO. My boat is somewhere around #6500 so I'm a little lighter than you. But I do check tire pressure at night or early morning every trip and inspect sidewalls for skuffs
. Tires are important , hope you have a safe and uneventfull trip.

I have had many bad Carlise's and many good Marathon's.......... However the tire of my choice now is Titan.http://www.titanstore.com/search/size/225%252F75/15. Another good tire is Michelin XPS. Happy Trails!
