96 Duallie 4x4 and Gooseneck....Need guidance and answers!
Ok..
I have the oppurtunity to buy a gooseneck locally for a pretty decent rate.
It is used 20'+5' Deckover axles flatbed.
The overall condition of the trailer is very good.
What should I be looking out for?
Is their a certain neck height that I should look out for on a trailer? This one is adjustable but I want to make sure it is high enough since this is a 4x4 Dually.
I want the trailer to pull level when loaded.
Please give me some guidance!

You shouldn't have any trouble with it if it is adjustable, I can pull the same trailers with the 05 and the 96, the 05 sits higher than the 96. But to be on the safe side, if you could take your truck and hook up to the trailer to see if it would adjust to the right height before you buy would be best. Good Luck !!

Try and pull it before you buy it...check the brakes. Hopefully it has oil bath axles Also, see what kind of axles it has, Dexter's are the best/most common (part are widely available). If it has Hayes axles, plan on replacing them with Dexter's when it needs brakes, it'll be cheaper than new brakes for the Hayes axles!

I went online and checked out other goosenecks for sale and it does look like the neck is too low even at the least setting.
Anyone else think so?

Doesn't look to heavily built to me, but I'm used to our 14K and 20K Corn-Pro's!
The neck height doesn't look too short to me, but a picture is tough to judge by!
What's the GVW??

Chris,
I think its a 14k or 7k per axle as the tag states. Its only an 8" beam and it is not the heaviest duty out there but the price is right on.

Depending on the axles, I wouldn't be afraid of it. Like I said before, if it has Hayes axles, brakes are gonna be EXPENSIVE, but Dexter's are fine!
You're not gonna haul much are you?? The other truck I assume, and probably some other misc stuff at times!
I'd say if you think the price is good, go for it if everything else looks fine!

As long as its a 6 or 7k axle, I am pretty sure the brakes are interchangable. I think I paid like $75 per backing plate which includes magnets, springs, backing plate and drum shoes.

Sorry nevermind, it was $105 for the pair.

That should fit any "standard" 6k/ 7k axle I think.

Judging from the cement blocks the jackleg is sitting on, I think it might be too low, but either get a ground to coupler measurement from the owner or take your truck to test-fit it... otherwise, it's not that big of a deal to move the coupler pipe up to where you need it - 4 hours to make it stronger than new with fresh paint....
