Question 6.7 mega cab

I just bought home my new 6.7. I love everything so far with the truck. I am a rig welder(pipeline) and will be putting my welding equipment in this new rig, with that said I do have some questions for you trailer guys. Because I bought the Mega Cab I gave up 400lbs after trading in my 03 so I stuck a set of air bags under it while I was looking at the new air bags I didn't see a real
good place to bolt my new welding skid to, Where are you trailer guys bolting
your 5th wheel hitches to?? I hate drilling into a new boxs so I like to see what other guys are doing to make sure its good and sturdy?? I could just bolt everything down to the skin of the box but would like to get it bolted to some part of the frame if you know what I mean

Here's a couple of ideas to put under that welding cap of yours:

Buy a B&W GN setup and mount it to your truck..all bolt in in about 2-3 hrs of labor.

Build a skid out of some 3" channel iron to mount the rod burning machine and bottles to. use the B&W for the main tie down (Some Minor Field Modifications Required Here...) then the front corners could be bolted through the bed with some spacers to an existing bed tie down or to something u-bolted to the frame...

The Dodge boys gets a little fussy about putting that low hydrogen to their frame rails (I Know, I Know I'm telling a welder not to weld )

This would make the swap out of your unit down the road quick and simple..save on that down time that don't pay squat!

I expect some pics and royalties off of this set up..

Check out the GN Trailer and bed rack I built in my pics.

Oh yeah I expect royalties on them too if you copy any of it...LOL

Later Dude

i drilled through the side of the frame where the hitch manufacturer suggested i drilled the outside of the hole bigger and inserted some steel pipe and migged it to the outside of the frame. ground off smooth. now there is a good mount for hitch and it won't squish the sides of boxed frame together.

Thanks for the info guys. Colo_River_Ram I use to rodeo(bareback) and I lived in Willingdon(sp?) colo. for a while, I have drank a lot of Jack in Fort Collins and danced with alot of ladies, those where the days I see you work in the oil patch do you have any work for a canadian rig welder? The oilpatch has slowed to a crawl here, winter is just around the corner so I am sure it will pick up again.

I'll post pictures when its all done, for now you'll have to look at my old 03'
welding truck.

I like the idea about the B&W hitch. Just add a piece of 2" box tubing sticking down from your skid and let the pin go through it to lock the rig on the bed. It would be easy to do if you build your skid and mount it to the bed, then take it off and mount the equipment to it. Pull the pin out from the wheel well and hoist the whole thing out of the bed. You can make some legs on the corner to pin in place to offset the center box tube if you want to sit it on the ground or where ever. That little pin holds 30,000 lbs of trailer and load I guess if would hold a 2000 lbs welding skid, at least that is what my buddies weighs!!
