Oil Filters?

Using a Frantz now and it is good. Would like to get rid of the black and FS advertises that they can do it. Any one out there with any real world experience would be appreciated. Expecially if you tow commercially, oil condition and appearance, analysis numbers, etc. Other options that will keep the soot out and keep the oil looking good.
anyone ?

Many people on this site get the Fleetguard filters, recommended by Cummins. Geno's has good prices on them, as well as the fuel filters.
Soot will get in oil, there is no stopping that. The Oil willl get dark or black. That is it's job. Changing the oil deals with that.
Some people run Amsoil & secondary filters. There are lots of posts that descibe that. Mixed opinions as well.
I believe the Cummins recommendation is 4-8k, depending on year, and towing. Most go with that.

I hope I answered your question!

You may have unrealistic expectations. I use the fleetguard filters I get from Geno's. I have the Amsoil Bypass Filter system. You are not going to get better regular filters and you are not going to get a better bypass filter. Using delo 400 for most of the trucks' life and switching to schaffer's 9000 synthetic for longer change intervals, I can tell you the oil still turns black. It starts going dark around 4k and is black at about 6k. I change at 20k. My oil goes to analysis at Blackstone and with over 110k on truck they report that the engine is in awesome shape, wear metals 1/2 of average and still retain good tbn and good levels of zinc, moly, boron and calcium. The FS 2500 is a good product and will remove much more stuff from the oil than with just the regular filter. It will even keep it cleaner longer. It will NOT keep oil from going black. The reason is there will always be soot that is smaller than the filters' ability to get it out. I am saying this with first hand experience. Don't buy into all the ad hype of the FS 2500. That's how I ended up with a banks unit. Again, not saying it is a bad product at all. Overpriced, sure. But it will do what it is supposed to and no more. Your oil will still go black over time.
