I think you'll find that we all appreciate fine looking ladies.
Just not wanting to see them all over the page of a diesel website.

There's plenty of other www.'s on the web to see that.
(BTW, that's a nice looking "Bird" in your avatar).

Wow, as much as I'm on here and I just noticed this thread?!

I cruised all 7 pages, interesting read. I guess I didn't notice there was that much of a problem around here? The people who really want to push the envelope get dealt with one way or another. Seems like a lot of work just to baby-sit the members, I figure if you mess up, you get booted, find another forum, life goes on.

As stated, privately owned and operated. I do whatever it is I want to with my businesses. What works I continue to do, what doesn't I lick my wounds and try something else.

unsolicited advertising via PM...i knew you guys monitored private messages, but if i see someone post that they want a certain part for their truck, and i shoot them a PM saying i have one for sale (not as a business etc) is that against the rules??

im curious because it happens alot, someone may be looking for injectors and i have some id sell, its easier to PM them and tell them, and not post in the thread.

If you PM someone trying to sell them something and they have not asked you to do so, it is considered just what it is SPAM and that is a nono.

We don't monitor private messages (hence the term private). They do get logged in a database, if I am not mistaken. But we don't see them at all. If a member is abusing the PM system by sending unsolicited ads, the only way we know about it is if the PM is forwarded to one of us.

If you see a post saying that (for example) that someone fried a piston. You happen to have a spare piston. You can post that you have a spare piston (not saying you have one for sale), and if that person is interested to PM you first. That is OK. You just can't post "hey I have a piston for sale". (Member trying to help another member) Now in a different light a member sends PMs to another member (or several) out of nowhere trying to sell performance ECMs (another example). That is bad (and SPAM). Normally if someone posts a wanted ad we [admin] will edit the post and refer that member to the Classifieds section of the board. The same goes for for sale ads. The forums are not for buying and selling. Hope this clarifies that better.

ok thanks

In the past like you said I've seen someone say they want to upgrade or broke something in a post, and I've sent a PM. Not like I am PMing them saying call my business and I can get you a deal on what you need, but more of a "hey i have what ya need, if interested let me know and we will work a price out."

But i guess I know not to do that from now on.

Wow...I just noticed this thread myself for the first time. Lots of reading, huh?

I like the infraction points idea. My only request/suggestion or whatever you call it........is after a certain period of time, the infraction point(s) earned go away. Maybe after say 1 year.

example 1..You slip up and earn a couple of points. Then you don't mess up anymore for a year......your slate is clean again. Example 2..You screw up and earn some points, then 6 months later you screw up again and earn a couple more points.....well the 1st set of points comes off a year from the violation date and the next set of points stays on the record until a year from that violation date.

I know this isn't a democracy... ...Im just throwing in my opinion.....all 2 cents worth. Or maybe just a penny.

Thanks Lary and Jack all the Admins for running a great website. I spend way to much time here...LOL.

Unsolicited ideas will cost you, (your choice of one), 14.5 points or loss of one performance mod on your truck (to be passed around the membership of DTR until it comes back to you, yea right) or you have to clean the DTR coffee pot, yuck!!!

This is NOT a democracy - it's a benevolent dictatorship! (Just like my home)

Nice one

XLR8R - the following paragraph is not directed toward you, but toward everyone:

In all seriousness though, I think people get way too worked up over this. This infraction system really isn't a big deal. It's used more for us to keep track of when we warn users etc. We've always done this. It was just harder to do without this in place. Instead of posting the information in the moderators forum, it's automated now and it allows us to keep this place clean and friendly as it should be.

You'll hear people complain about a lot of things but in all reality this system has not changed how we operate the site. The key things to remember are to follow the rules here. We enforce the rules equally and we give no bias for our users. Love you or hate you, we're still going to treat you the same when it comes to your membership status on the site.

You'll also hear people say that the reason we started this site was to get away from sites who were censoring too much or not allowing people to speak freely. Not true. This site was started because I got tired of dealing with insults and almost every type of thread turning into flame wars. We may be a bit more restrictive here than some of the other diesel sites, but in our opinion, it sets us apart. Most of our members appreciate that we keep this place clean, a place where you can surf and not have to worry about your kids or your wife looking over your shoulder. Some other sites you can't say that about. If that is your thing, then there are a lot of choices these days in terms of Cummins related websites. Some of them are really good and some of them not so good. In the end, the choice is up to you as members. You can either stay or go. We'd prefer you stay but if not, then feel free to join another site and enjoy it.

You'll also hear some say that we will drive our members away. I am not sure how this one comes up as our site is the fastest growing Cummins related website on the Internet. The site right now in terms of user registrations is number 2, quickly on its way to becoming number 1. We're about 2000 members behind the largest site. 6 months ago, we were 6000 members behind the largest site. On average, most of the sites get about 20-30 new users a day. We're getting almost double that number. Our posts have gone from 500 a day last year to over 1500 a day now. Our site stats went from 800,000 hits per day to over 1.4 million hits a day now. It seems to me that saying our policies drive our members away is contradicting the truth as it appears it's doing just the opposite, which is bringing more and more of them in! Well, I take that back, a little bit. It DOES drive away those who can't seem to learn how to follow a simple set of rules.

You're right, Jack - this IS the best diesel site on the web (just not everyone realizes that yet...), and the vast majority of us are glad that you, Larry and the admins have given of yourselves to make it that way.

Keep up the good work!
