Wobbling Turbo Shaft!!!!!!!!!!!
i was was driving my truck tonight and went to pass a guy so i turned off valet mode (which i usually never drive with it off) and passsed the guy at almost full throttle. and smoke just poured from my exhaust, so i let off, but right before i let off i heared a sound from the turbo , kinda like a bark, and then lots of bad scraping and knocking noises came from it so i pull the air cleaner off and found that the whole shaft moved up down and side to side, what would cause this, over boost? over speed? what? sorry don't know what the boost was at when this happened (was watching the smoke ) please help i don't know what happened but some parts don't fit snuggly anymore. thanks

Typically aftermarket turbo's are set up a little loose but a stock HX35 should have very very little side-side and up-down play and no in-out. Maybe you hit the magic 48psi that killed my past two.

With the current dv's and your plans to do 435's don't waste your money on rebuilding it. AT LEAST, if you are poor like me, get an HX40. If you can find the money it would be best spent on something in the area of a 64/14.

i talked to the good ole boys at HTT and decided to get a new cartridge for the turbo and keep it the same, i'll just have to wait to build the twins a little longer but it was cheaper this way. i could have thrown down $1500 on a sweet new charger that would handle 500hp, but then i wouldn't be able to build the twins, which i hecka want. thanks for the help, and any ideas on the oil pump issue??

well im not sure what happened then, cause i drove the truck home, (from work) without the turbo on(had to drive slow) and when i got home the turbo cartride, which i hooked up to the oil line so i could drive the truck, and there was oil leaking from it cause the gasket was bad(this was my old first gen turbo cartridge, the new one has a good gasket) so im not sure why the turbo burned out. HTT said something about a check ball valve for the turbo?? anyone know of this? thanks
