I'm looking for a winch mount for my 98.

This rig is not an offroader, I just happen to have a 10,000lbs hydraulic winch hanging around.

I was looking at the milemarker extreme winch mounts (brush guard with mount) which run around $900. Does this seem like a good deal? Anyone have experience with them?

Other thought, what about a receiver mount? I'm not sure how much it would cost to put a mount on the front end, but I do like the idea of being able to move the winch. How much weight can these type of mounts handle?

Any and all advice appreciated.

 

I'd go with a front receiver....I believe they are reasonably priced and you'll have the versatility of using the winch both up front and out back, which can save some damage to your truck should you be stuck and need it at the opposite end of the vehicle. If I were you, I'd get the receiver up front and then leave the winch in a tool box to keep it safe from theft, damage, weather etc.

Sorry I don't have any links, but try ebay or I'm sure others will chime in. WIsh I had an extra winch laying around....everytime i need mine I have to load up the jeep!

 

I wouldn't think that a hitch receiver would be very practical with a hyd winch. You could get hoses made up with quick couplers I guess but that adds cost to the project.

 

I've already got a winch with the hoses. I just need the adapters for the dodge powersteering, I'd imagine that the quick connects wouldn't be that much, I'm more worried about the line pull limits of the receiver style hitch

 

Three months later, but the answer is 9,000 lbs.

 

Make sure that you have the right setup for quick disconnects. The Milemarker solenoid flows the fluid through, so you would need the type of winch that does not have the solenoid attached to the motor. This way you can install the solenoid under the hood and just route hydraulic lines to the front and back using a toggle valve. If you have solenoid on the winch, you need to somehow complete the loop that will be going to the winch when you take it off.

 

My friends and I all offroad quite a bit.

Now I prefer an electic winch....but lots of folks use the one you have.

Forget about the receiver hitch mounted winch. It's not up to the task of side loading. Straight forward is just O.K., any side pulls and you're up the creek.
How do I know? BTDT, and with a measly 9K winch.
The Warn winch mount would be the best for your application. Much cheaper than the MM. How do I know? BTDT. Also, with the hydro lines, you want a permanent mount.
Go to the Warn website and search your year. Their website is not very easy to navigate, but the info is in there. Then order the parts on-line from some other vendor. Much cheaper.
