Why are factory wheels, both chrome steel and aluminum, more resistant to corrosion than aftermarket wheels? Factory wheels are so much easier to maintain. Factory aluminum wheels with "JW" cast into them are so easy to clean. Are there any aftermarket chrome steel wheels, caps, and lugnuts that resist rust/corrosion like factory chrome steel wheels?
The aluminum ones are clear coated. The reason aftermarket ones aren't is because when the clear chips off or gets cracked, they corrode under it and leave white streaks (which the factory ones will do also) Alcoa is the only brand that have "Durabrite" wheels that never need polish, won't corrode and are not clear coated. (I don't believe they're available for pickups though). I know of a few chrome factory wheels that rust but mainly on trucks that never see a car wash.
You can get aftermarket wheels coated but like I said when they go bad they look REALLY bad.
