Whats wrong with my turbo?

So I finally had some time today to do some work on my truck, change shocks and a couple other things and I thought maybe I would take off the silencer ring for a while see how it sounds. When I took off the airfilter stuff I noticed its all oily and grimy looking. I never really noticed any drivability issues but I dont have a boost gauge either. Any ways I took a picture of it, what do you all think? I still have yet to learn alot about turbos. Thanks, Frank

see if you can move the shaft side to side. Kinda appears that the wheel is getting into the side of the housing. Looks like there is shavings stuck in that motor oil too.

Looks like it might be time for a new turbo or rebuild.

I did try wiggling the shaft around it didnt seem to go side to side but Ill go out and check and I also thought it seemed like shavings in there. If im needing a new turbo what would be better to do, I dont really have big bucks to spend but I also dont want to cheap out and five months down the road need to get something different.

Right now the truck is basically stock, but my dads friend is selling his truck soon and will be giving me his edge ez oof it and then I was thinking of getting either some rv275's or mach 1 injectors. Also in the next month or so im going to be putting gauges on.

I use the truck as a daily driver for work and what not and I tow stuff every now and then, also I plan on putting a camper on it in the future.

What i want is decent power and good fuel mileage, so would i be better getting this one rebuilt or going with a different turbo, and if i go with a different one what would work good with my plans, thanks again

ya i just went out and checked and it dosent move side to side allthough there is a cleam spot all the way around which looks like where the blades would touch if it moves around. Where would all that oil be coming from bad seals? Like I said before I still got alot to learn about turbos

If the Mach 1/RV275 and EZ is all you plan in the stocker will be fine, and spool quick for you...

Hmm that almost looks like you might have some sort of exhaust leak? That happened to me once and it looked the same as yours does. I could not see a leak but it was there and much worse under hard throttle..

dzlfarmboy have you rebuilt a turbo is it hard to do or is not to bad. could it be done in a weekend. I have rebuilt carbs and done shift kits before, would doing this be on about the same difficulty level or should I leave to the pro's and take it to a shop. thanks

Do you have an air filter that you add oil to, maybe over doing it with the oil.
