What would it take to run low 13's in 1/4?

I ran a 13.18 last Saturday with the drag comp on 5X3 experimenting and that was into a 20 mph headwind. And I weigh in at 7116 pounds in race trim. Race trim What a term for a 7000 + pound truck.

So guys, we are saying I may get my truck down from 14.5 sec to mid 13's fairly easy, maybe little bigger injecters and more turbo. The set up in my signature seems strong but would hope for a little more.

Trap speed on the 13.18 pass was 98 mph but that was with the box set on 5X3 and fighting the 20 mph headwinds. My can-bus connection was causing issues so I tried setting the box down to get it to build boost. Normally the 12 second passes are in the 103 to 104 range. The 470hp dyno numbers I have are with the HTB2 and the truck was only making 38 psi that day. I like the Sledpuller 66 but it spools slower than the HTB2 by quite a bit at low speeds. I have plans for moving up in the hp wars this summer and the Sledpuller fits the bill nicely. I'm hoping the catcher ecm fixes some of that. The calculations normally used to calculate hp/1/4 times aren't very accurate on our engines due to the tremendous torque we make. Gene I think your truck would run a high 13 right now with a hard launch assuming that you have billet shafts. What was your 60 foot time? I normally 60 foot in the high 1.6 to low 1.7 range with a minimum of a 10 pound launch. The 1.66 was with a 20 psi launch. I usually don't push it that hard though.

MC, I've tried with around 10 psi, anymore and the tires just smoke (285/75/16). My son normally does the runs because his reaction to the lights are as one. I don't believe he breaks out with any more than 10, maybe 15 but has to feather it out of the gate. The tranny has with stood the abuse, thanks to DTT. Probably need to upgrade my fuel system soon, Fass or similar. The Mach 4's would be next.

2 wheel drive for the track would be my choice...but lets say u ever wanna get into pulling competitions then you'll cry because you didnt get yourself a 4x4....so go 4x4 !!...if ur a do it urself type of guy then get a 12 valve you'll have more fun and satisgaction...if u like to let the computers do all the work for u then get a 24 valve..

I run low 13's with my comp box on 3x5. It will run high 12's on 5x5, but the egt's are crazy, and I don't have drive shaft loops (NHRA requires loops quicker then 13.00).
By your comments I take it your are leaving in 2 wheel drive? I leave in 4x4 (I have billet shafts), usually at 15psi boost, and end up with 1.7 60ft times. 20psi and I have 1.6 60ft times, but it spins hard off the line, and it's not as consistent because of this.
I was running low 14's last year, with the main change being the Mach 4's (Mach 1.5's last year). The Mach 4's are awesome! I can run a 14.4 with the comp box off!
Hope this helps...

Dock, It felt like I was on the brakes that pass. With the box turned down and the strong headwinds it was like picking up a trailer at the 1000 foot mark. Wife said the smoke cleared up before the 1/8 mile cones and it ran clean the rest of the way through. My 1.66 short time was with a 20-25 pound launch but I prefer a 12-15 pound launch. My truck wouldn't build boost that day until it hit a higher rpm and then it would go instantly up to the boost level for that rpm. As soon as it started building it went to inbetween 20 and 25 pounds so I turned the truck loose and let her rip. I can't afford to do that very often. I have feeling that parts will break eventually at that level. I have fixed the boost issue since then and I can now build 5, 10 or whatever psi I need.
