What size exhaust??
What size exhaust??
Okay, so I want to throw on a straight pipe. I've found some 4" and a 5". Which one should I get? I rode in a truck last week with a 5" straight pipe and it sounded pretty good. Let me know what you think. Thanks a lot, George
Do a search and you'll find hours upon hours of reading. Some folk say you need a 5 in exhaust system only if your around 450-500 hp and higher. Anything below that and your actually losing hp and performance. I guess it just depends on how high your gonna go performance wise. I'd go w/ the 4 in because its a little cheaper and trust me, you won't be disappointed with it.
It sure is loud like that.A friend of mine has that set up.Its not annoying,I mean its a straight piped cummins! It always sounds good. But really,I think going all the way to the back sounds better. Its a little smoother sound.
A 4" straight pipe with a turn down dumping before the rear axle would be annoying to me! A side pipe would be a little better as it won't echo off the road so bad.......If you really want some noise, put on a set of straight piped stacks!
........Either way, a 4" straight pipe exiting out the back will resonate with authority in the cab and outside!
DD4x4 is correct...........a 4" system will provide adequate flow for 450-500hp.........you will not benefit from a 5" system unless you expect to exceed 500hp......

In my quest to buy parts, at the available rate of incoming money,
I took my truck to a local muffler shop. They cut out the resonator and muffler. Added a piece, after making an offset in it, welded it in, and the total cost was $56. Sounds good, and breathes a little easier. Fun to drive too!
Now I'm off for gages, intake and some tranny work. Then I'll return and finish the exhaust with a 4".
