I really only have two that I regret. 1. 30" cat back Magnaflow muffler, drone in cab, replaced it with a 52" Nelson/Fleetguard (86131m), perfect. 2. Airlift Air Cells (similar to Timbrens), total junk. One fell apart in less than a year. I am now using Hellwig overload springs (61901), problem solved. Bilstein shocks, a Smarty Jr. and Centramatic wheel balancers were three of the better ones. John

M.T.-I'm glad to hear you can use the info. The best part of my Helwigs is that they are fully adjustable. The only negative is when empty they rattle when going over a bump. Regards-John

I found having twins on my 98 to be a real PIA. Doing a simple oil change turns into a stupid task of needing to remove the tubing on that side. My truck actually caught fire a couple of years ago because the bottom turbo pinched the block heater cord to the frame and chafed it....then one night being plugged in, fire! I dont care to ever build a twined truck again.

You are the first person I have ever heard complain about regretting twins. Considering I only change my oil twice a year, the extra 5 minutes to drop my interstage pipe is not hassle enough to want to go back to a single.

I wish I had taken the head to get surfaced and o-ringed when I installed studs. Now 2 years later I have to do it all over again because it blew bad.

Edit: this is on my 95...guess I should update my sig.

Ditto on the Bilsteins and keeping it simple!

I would stay stock as much as possible. I understand you can turn up the FP on the pump a little & get a little more power, for low $. The stock air box is probably just fine. Unless you really need way more power, keep it stock. Maybe 1 size over on tires, but, again, the factory had a reason for the size that is stock.
Best Mod for the money- New Bilstein shocks. The differrence will be amazing.
Tires can make a big diffrrence too. A good AT tire will work well all season & off road.
If you tow, a rear stabilizer bar will help too. Air bags if you tow. haul heavy loads.
These are relatively simple trucks. The less you do to them, the more money you can spend where it makes more sense.

I like my Bilsteins!
I think I mentioned this, but I should have went to twins instead of the bigger single.

first i would say what I have learned is do spend the extra time and research the product ask a lot of questions on this site. This usually will save a person a lot of time and money. There are to many websites still out there that what to sell the latest or greatest product but have little knowledge on our trucks.

I love the look of my 37" tires but I will be going back to 35"
with that said I wish I would have asked more questions and not purchased the 6' RCD lift that I did. I still have it on the truck after 7 years but have had to replace all of the long arm bushings 2x they do not have a grease zirt. The coils that were with the kit are not progressive coils. they have since compressed about 1"1/2 since new.
if I knew then what i know now I would have looked at Thuren's stuff now since he located here in Oregon only a couple hours from me. I liked the look of 6" lift but I would now be fine with 4" lift.
