What do I need to be doing for more power?

I have had my truck for a little while now, and I like it alright.

It is a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 auto with an extended cab and long bed. There is just one thing I can’t stand… It seems this truck has no power. I didn’t even know I didn’t have any until I drove my dads 04 F-350 w/ a powerstroke in it. That is when I found out I had no power…

Just to let you know before I get started this truck is for my daily driving and playing around. I don’t use it to pull stuff or any thing like that. (If it even makes a difference)

So I thought I would do a few things to my truck and see if it helped out… I bought a +65HP VA, BHAF, and a 3” straight pipe. After buying that stuff I still can not get my tires to spin on a dry road. (Yes it is true, and this kills me)

So I guess the first thing to do before I get injectors is upgrade the transmission. How far would I have to go in this area so every thing holds up ok? Also what type of injectors do you all recommend?

I will be happy when my truck has more power than my dads powerstroke, and maybe a better 1/4 time than my friends mustang. (Don’t worry they are both still stock)

I would like to go as far as I can with out going “all out” after all this stuff costs money. :S

Thanks in advance,

are you trying to power brake, if so the ecm wont let you. only way around it is a smarty or large injectors.

You dont mention gauges... You definately need them, Fuel pressure, Pyro, Tranny temp, Boost.

I bet some Mach 4's would help as well

Welcome to DTR!
You've gone about as far as you can....without tranny work. A good Valve body will let you go to 350 hp and to add some bigger injectors (100 hp) and would make a big difference.
At that point ($1,200 - 1,300) you turbo is the biggest limitation!
Valve Body - http://www.dieseltrans.com/
Injectors - http://www.f1diesel.com/

Good Luck!

a goerends Valve body and convertor are a good combo up to about 425-450hp...after that you need to start getting into a full rebuild with billet shafts.

more power- sell the van aaken, buy a smarty and some mach 4 injectors, then get phat shaft 62 or 64 turbo, and look for a TST fueling box...at that point you will be about 425-450 hp, nearly 1,000tq, and TRUST ME when i say you will be able to spin the tires!

be careful in the rain tho, when i drive in the rain i keep my comp box turned off and i still cant go more than half throttle or im sideways

That seems a little odd to me Is it a hard packed dirt road, or like a gravel road?
I can get my dads rear wheels spinning pretty easily on dirt roads and gravel roads, and its a dually

He is probably talking dry tar.

And, I could only barely spin my tires with my VA(on dry tar). But that is with a stick. With the injectors is a different story.

I would do a Valve body and converter.

Then get at least a 35 hybrid, maybe an HTB2 or Phat Shaft 62. And an injector around 150 hp if you don't tow at all.

Also, get yourself an EDGE Juice with Attitude. 120 hp and gauges for $700.

Just my 2 cents.

For one you are comparing your truck to a 2004 6.0 PSD, granted, we all like our Cummins, but I've driven a couple 6.0's, they flat get it on in stock form.

I am not suprised you can't spin the tires. I have to run on level 5 and 6 of my Juice to get my one legger rear end to break loose. You probably have a Power lock.

I get all my stuff through dieselnutmotorsports.

www.dieselnutmotorsports.com. His shop is in a town just up the street from mine and know him personally, the best customer service I've had yet.

Yes, normally you have to pay 100 bucks for the Hot unlock code but I got it for free from being a TDR member. Unfortunately, I think they stopped that offer for TDR members, and I barely got my code for free as they were about to shut that program down when I was calling them.

If you want power look at the f-1 injectors and a phatshaft turbo. The limit to how far to go depends on how much power you're going to build the tranny to hold. Guages are a necessity at this point too.
