With Mach 4's and an Auto, I did not go with HRVP...wanting to keep all other added fuel "adjustable".... for smoke control/
Was I overly cautious??

Your definition of "bigger" is probably different than mine , but my mild combo is pretty easy to control the smoke. But it really rolls the black when you are on it hard!

Ya, I'm definitely needing more air into my mix. as jasonjones said, its easy to control, but when you honk on it, you can smoke up an intersection. I run my comp on 1x3 and that is much better than 5x5, smokewise. on 1x3 when I hammer on it I get a small cloud of black. I get white smoke when the truck is first turned on and warming up in the morning and sometimes on startup during the day as well.
Get the HRVP and then get a better turbo less black smoke

EDIT** rjohnson, I just noticed that your turbo isn't stock...so get twins

I was getting enough smoke to drop the smarty back to 5. Now I only smoke if I lug or accellerate too quickly. Lets just say that when I go to pass the car in front of me I can't see the car behind me by the time I make it to the left lane I can avoid this by rolling into the throttle, but usually I just punch it.

Has anyone gone through emissions testing with a HRVP?

Hearing all the smoke stories and how the emissions test here is pretty much "pedal to the floor".... id guess theyd fail you..

Adjustable 'hr'VP44s would kick butt.

My HRVP has had the lopey idle since day one. It doesn't do it when the engine is ice cold, but as soon as it warms up...

It sounds like a bad miss. As far as power goes, the truck runs great. It'll smoke more, especially with big sticks.

I just treat the throttle pedal nicely while in town.

My experience with the HRVP44 is there is less smoke than before when the Comp is turned off vs. the Comp off with a stock ETH VP44. Even in towing situations on hot days. I was quite supprised at this result. Smoke, of course, goes up when the weather gets warmer.

If you want to pass emissions, turn all boxes off and have them run the test in a lower gear and higher rpm. I have gone from a 36% opacity to 2% using this method. Only had to flunk the test once to learn the lesson.

Big Deezul,

One of my buddies on the other board has a camera with video too. I'll ask him if he won't mind making a sound or video clip.

People were asking me about the crappy idle today at Kauffman's...
