Van Aaken "Smartbox R"

Is the "R" the most current version of the Van Aaken available for my 2001? I see that there are a few on sale on EBay at what seems to be a very, very low price.
I know there was a thread addressing this a while back, not sure what the outcome was.
Does anyone know if the boxes from Valley Fuel are the newest and "real"
VA boxes?
If so, the pricing is hard to pass up??

I bought mine from VF through EBay. It is the new version and is brand new. It was simple to install and made a nice improvement in performance. What you probably heard about i.e. the old version, is that this model plugs into the injection pump. There is another version (V5 I believe) that plugs into the diagnostic port instead of the injection pump. They are exactly the same in all other aspects. The picture on EBay also shows the older box design but that is not the version you get.

I hope you get it. It would be nice to have a few more VA guys on the forums

So this one does plug into the VP44? Huh, I think I'll hold off for a while, I still have some warranty left.

I know these are "New" in the box, but am still thinking there is a newer VA version.

PJ,

Valley Fuel isn't a van Aaken distributor anymore from what I hear so these are probably a sell off to clear out inventory, I would guess. If they are new ones and you can get a good deal go for it, the ones we sell are designed to plug into the diagnostic port and MAP sensor that way you do not have to break the seal on the pump and worry about warranty issues. van Aaken still makes then so you can plug into the pump but the sales of those are very very slow. Call us if you have any questions we'll be glad to help you with them or a module.

Okay, two hours later they were all gone. I didn't get a chance to make an educated decision.
I have to think these were the "older" style ones. Oh well.

I bought one from Valley Fuel as well

It is the newer version

And he included some "Warranty" stickers for the injection pump. I already removed it once, put on a new warranty sticker and brought it in for a lift pump.

Not evena question from the dealer.

I have the R and I would like to know where to get some of the yellow warranty stickers. I still have 20k on the warranty. But I love the box.

Smile Remove VA before warrentee work on fuel pump?

I have the new style VA and love it. There is a little unevenness at around 30mph but can't bare the idea of giving it up to have it checked out.Good solid increase in mpgs . One question I do have - if I need warrentee work done on the fuel pump should I remove it?

If you have the "new" style box it shouldn't even be connected to the pump itself.

The newer version is the V5, it is awesome, really simple, just plug it and put the velcro on the fuse box and stick it there and you are done. Very easy install. Love it. Great little performance up.
