I am going to put in my valaire clutch tomorrow. Any pointers to make the job a little easier? I have a full shop and lift so it shouldn't be too bad. This is just my first dodge clutch and I am a little nervous. I usually like to learn on other people's projects

 

make sure the center hub is designed so it goes on the input shaft completely. some 3rd gen guys discovered that when installing the valairs that it only goes on to the input shaft splines about a 1/4" and that could lead to disaster if if were to break. this is not an installation tip...this is about the basic design of the clutch itself

 

My tip is going to be if you decide to replace the rear main seal ONLY do it if it is leaking pretty bad and when you take te old seal out be very careful not to damage the retainer plate that bolts to the back of the block, lol don't ask how I know . Other than that just be careful with the tranny up on the tranny jack, you don't want it comming down on ya! lol. You can use longer bolts with the head cut off that will thread into the bellhousing to help line the transmission up and help you slide it in a little easier. It's not too terribly hard but time consuming, me and my friend by ourselves can completely change out the clutch and rear main seal in my truck in around 8 hrs. good luck!

BTW you will like the clutch for that is the one I am running BUT until after about 100 miles do not romp into the throttle, the buttons won't be seated nearly at all and it will slip. Other than that just go 300-500 miles before doing anything REALLY hard on it and you will love it

IIRC that was on the GS6 conversion kits. Not that it was not a serious problem, because it definately is. But not one directly aplicable to the seccond gen clutches. We have several members running them in 12v and 24v trucks, and one of them sledpulling with one and no problems.

I havent had issues with mine at all, Ive got well over 12K miles on mine, and ull love it with more driving it, It holds my horsepower very well, and suites my purposes for towing..

Jake said according to the posts below in that thread is that he is planning on getting a dual disc.

I would not advise pulling with any single disc as they will not hold up. I would hate to see someone throw away money when a single disc clutch flies apart trying to sledpull with it.

 

I'm not endorsing the idea, as I know that slipping a single disc is a good way to drastically shorten it's lifespan. I was just pointing out his success and satisfaction with the Valair product.

But thanks for pointing out that a single disc is not reccomended (I am being serious, just because Jake has and does does not make it the best way. But I am glad it is working for him, at least for now. You gotta pay to play. That's why I don't wanna pull)
