Twins home made

For those of you that have made your own twins for the secondary top charger did you bolt it up straight the the manifold or make a spacer in between. I know most running an external WG usually make a spacer to put it in but im thinking about running a modified wastegated charger on top and not using a spacer just wondering how it affected the outcome of where the bottom charger was positioned. Thinking about a 62/B-2 setup. Any input would help. Thanks

Ats manifold upside down with a 3/4" spacer between the manifold and the exhaust housing will give about the right amount of clearance for the compressor housing to clear the exhaust manifold.

Thinking about a modified 62 from Doug and gonna try to buy the hot pipe from somewhere and build the cold pipes and all the other BS , the steriod just got rebuilt and i put it back on my truck sunday, it seems to spool better after the rebuild, but i still think i wanna do twins, it just might take some time and i have a 12v block and head and a cracked 24v manifold to try and build the twins off of so my trucks not down for very long, so i might have it for sale after a while.

Have you or anyone made a set without removing the heat exchanger?if so how? and if you didn't what kind of lines do you need to run up front to a radiator style cooler, thanks

I can't tell you about fabbing the twins , I have not done that , yet , but about the heat exchanger , some guys managed to keep it in the stock location , but lately the trend seems to be to relocate it elsewhere on the truck , and run new lines to it, bottom of the rad support is a common location.

I got a hx35 to fit with a 3/8 thick spacer. The 38 mm tial wastegate is on a pipe welded to the exhaust manifold. It's a real tight fit, if I was building another set I would try to modify the internal wastegate to flow enough. Watch how you fit up the bottom turbo or getting the air filter pipe out will be almost impossible. I used a 5 in air filter pipe but if I was doing it again it would be 4 just for room. I think my twin building days are over anyway.

I've never used a spacer. It clears the manifold fine, but you need a new coolant return line.

Twins

Ive only built one set, the set in my sig,
But.... joefarmer has built several and he talked me into moving my heat exchanger. Im more than happy that he did, When i set the B2 in there with the heat exchanger in the truck it was scarry close. I took it out and mounted it to the radiator support and ran my lines to the front, I had to do away with the check ball that is in the hose that comes from the tranny though. With it out i just let the truck set in gear for a few more seconds then take off.
I used a 1/2 spacer i made myself with longer studs for the manifold that i bought from source automotive.
Without the spacer you cant get the compressor housing to spin around enough to mount the CAC pipe.

Running with or without a spacer doesnt affect the bottom charger as much as the top one,you simply come in from a slightly different angle, and a little higher up,but not much. The only way your going to know if that setup works with your level of fueling without an external gate is to try it.If you cant dump enough boost from the top charger, your total boost will be uncontrollable, and you will lunch the head gasket,or intercooler.

Did you use fittings and hard lines cause of the tranny fluid pressure or could they be done with hose and clamps?
