I have a hx40 turbo with a 14cm exhaust housing and im thinking of building a twin turbo setup, using a ht3b turbo together with the hx40, would it work or would the stock turbo be better (hx35)? and how many psi of boost would i expect if it works? cuz i would need to do some head work and studs.

How important is spool-up? That combo is abit sluggish unless you have decent power to drive the turbo. They work well. I would run the Hx-35/3B, for a hot street truck.

 

I'd take Mike's advice on that one-- he's definitely bought that T-shirt.

I've hardly even started too run/tune and build twins. To make them work right there is a bit of thinking to do. I've ran the 40/3B for three years and enjoyed them. I put about 75000miles on a set. If you want to really get the 40/3b combo to work you have to massage the turbine wastegate housing so you can flow more air and open up the wastegate size. If you don't egt's will start to sky rocket. I like the K-31 for faster spool-up and the compressor impeller is similar to size of the 3B. The turbine is tighter with the K-31 and its wastegated. Its the same thing as the garrett 4294 but with an internal wastegate. The HX-35/3B combo is a great set-up, trust me. Piers did run a 700+rwhp on a 3rd gen on the 35/3b combo. This info is for truck running just straight #2, nos bends turbo size limits. As for me knowing my stuff, I hope my home made set-up works as good I think it will. Its still in parts in my garage. I still have lots to learn. Everyday I work on this I learn. I want them to fit perfectly and to be tuned perfectly. Everything from the air tubes, exhaust manifold and my hot down pipe. I'm still a ways from this yet.

 

i just got through building a twin turbo setup on my cummins-ford and i tell you what, it is a lot of work. i almost wished i had applied for new credit cards and just bought the setup. put them on, see if it fits, take it off, try something different, test fit, take apart, getting all the oil lines in the right spot with no leaks and no oil blowing through the turbos is not easy. also you have to think about whats gunna break next after the twins. now i need injectors, delivery valves, a new clutch... and im sure the list will get longer. and the truck will be down for a while. stock head gasket is good for 55 psi. i alredy tested that theory. i dont plan to take it any higher though. might blow. i used a stock35 and a 55. works pretty good 45psi real easy and up to 55at high rpms. good luck with your setup.

 

No doubt it isn't for the faint of heart but its lots of fun spending time with my truck My buddy at work just dumped 60k into a new rig. I'm at 10k, so my smile is abit bigger than his. He has a monthly payment, I don't.

This set is on a 05Ford siver Bullit and a Big brother.[/IMG]
My sons truck has a HX35-40/12 modifided wastegate and a HT3B/26 it does alright with stock inj. we took out the 7x12 for driving to work.
