Turbo Problems

Hey Guy's
I have a 99 24 valve with a EZ box, AFE intake , 90HP injectors , 4 inch exhaust, holley aux pump , BD Tranny with low stall converter , 31psi boost.
My problem is my turbo. Lately my truck has been barfing black smoke when I get into the throttle off idle. I checked the Turbo and it's done, it's already started to rub on the housing.
The Diesel shop I use suggested I run the Dodgezilla Turbo cause the stall is low on my converter. Has anyone had any experience with them?
There are so many different turbos on the market I'm not sure which one to buy, I just know I need to buy one.
Also how do I check to see what size housing my truck came with?
Thanks
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Chris

I think Bob Wagner is using a dodgezilla turbo on his truck......and seems to be happy with it. There are a ton of turbo options out there for you.

What kind of power are you looking to get? That will help us try to figure out what turbo would be suit your needs.

And I think the Hx35 that you have stock has a 14cm housing......maybe it's a 12?? I'm not 100% sure cuz I have the HY35 with a tiny housing

I'm certainly no turbo expert but a couple that I like because of the idea of being able to "step up" if you choose are selections from both HTT and BD.

High Tech Turbo has a 62-12 that would be a great turbo for your current power and still spool well and still good for 450 hp or so from what I understand. If you choose to step up for a minimal charge, a couple hunded bucks, you can change either the compressor or the housing dependent on your needs. I'm not sure how much HP you can build but with a 64-14 I would think you could get to 600 if you so desired.

BD - has their "Super B" turbo that is solid setup in single form by most accounts (especially in a towing set up) and if you decided to step up in bigger way, you can add the rest of the kit and another turbo for their twin set up. Their twin set up is rated at 550 hp and the Super B is rated up to 425. Now from what I've heard they are supposed to be adding a bigger set of twins that will go up to 700-750 hp.

Anyway, there are many other excellent routes you can go, but these were the 2 finalist in my selection process.

Good luck,

Well I'm not really sure what kind of HP I'm looking to get... I just what a good reliable package that can do a good job towing.
I't's my daily driver so I don't want a huge turbo that only works on the top end, but i would like to add a little HP so the cost dosen't hurt so much.
I don't Know should I be going to a bigger housing?

the hx35 that came on the 99s is a 12cm exhaust housing . i used to have a 99 . well theres a few ways you can go . you can send your turbo to htt and have them make it into a 35/40 for less than that dodgezilla turbo or pick up one of there htb2 turbos. like a 62/12 would be nice for a towing charger and spool as quick if not quicker than that stocker .

well i have the ats 2000 turbo and i love it. spools very quickly and cools amazingly. i have only been able to get it into th low 1200 mark once with the mods in my sig minus the injectors. i run mid 40psi with box on 5x5. havent had one prob with it. i think its a pretty good all around turbo. cant put 600 hp to it but 450 to 500 it works great.

Good post Tiger Rag- just want to point out the Industrial Injections does upgrades too if the man went with a Phatshaft =P

And to simplify it for ya UPM you can go rebuild your turbo to a 35/40 hybrid like the dodgezilla for the least amount of money. Then there are a dozen variations on the holset 40 which might work well for you. Then you'll have the Schwitzer based turbo's like the phatshaft, HTT, BD,... I like my phatshaft =P

Look at Doug page: http://www.performancedieselwarehouse.com/817983.html
