TST is Lethal!!

Well i am very bummed out right now. I went to the track last night to watch and see what was going on, i got excited and decided to do test and tune with the truck. Well i went up to the line and that was all she wrote. The tranny is smoked . I did my regular rutine, i staged the first light, then started to build boost, everything was fine untill the TST kicked on the fueling, then the truck when from about 10psi of boost up to about 35, and i backed off real quick, so quick the turbo barked while it was sitting at the line, light turned green and the truck went no where with lots of black smoke. It finally started moving but it was taking off in second gear. Trans temp was only at 180* which was not to bad. Got to the end of the track and came back up and parked the truck and let it cool for a while. Well i have no first gear, no reverse and i have no overdrive . I should have stayed home!!!!!! So now i got to tow my truck down to Mass Diesel and let him take it all apart and rebuild it. No hard parts broke like output or input or intermediate shafts, but i am worried the my converter might be toast and that my valve body might be toast. The TST box is a lethal little box. I did everything the same as i did the last time i raced with only the compbox and i never had this problem. Sorry for the long post, but i had to vent.

If you play, you'll pay.

Not trying to be harsh or make ya feel bad, it's just the nature of the beast. When you push anything hard they break.

Very true, but i never thought that i would have this problem, i guess i underestimated the power that my truck had, It took the tranny out in the matter of only a few seconds

The TST is the ticket for any Cummins powered unit. Who better to get the most out of a Cummins than a former Cummins Engineer?

If it did get shavings in the converter, it will probably cost you $200-$300 to have it cut apart, cleaned out, and put back together. And Im sure if it did the same to the VB it will cost you some to have that gone through. So do you have a full built DTT?

The DTT got smoked?

I thought the stocker got smoked. Not likely for a DTT to fail at only 35psi boost.

What makes life so hard for these trannies is the combination of massive torque and heavy vehicle weight. If you had a bone stock auto, it would probably hold 500hp if it was in a vehicle that only weighed 3000 lb.

But it's in a truck that often weighs over 7K. You start trying to acclerate that much mass with the brutal 4-digit tq of a souped up CTD and it's a miracle that even a built tranny doesn't fail.

I'd love to have a reg cab 2wd as a project truck! Make it a 97 12V, please

Yeah the tranny was a full billet built tranny with all billet parts. I was kind of suprised that it let go. I have watched numerous videos and live action of these trucks drag racing, and i dont make as much power as them and they were launching the trucks alot harder then i was going to launch mine. I just need to get it down there, hopefully bring it down early early monday morning casue he sadi that he would be there and drop it off, hopefully it wont be down to long and cost to much $$$$$$
