transmission removal
Im reading in my hanes manual to take the tc cover off to get to the bolts that link the converter to the flexplate.I took that little cover with the 3 8mm bolts off and there seems to be no way to get to the bolts .Am I missing something or what? 47re 4x4.Maybe the instruction are generic and apply to gas motors only ,I dont know.Help me.Do you maybe have to remove the case bolts and slide it back?
On the passenger side of the truck, under the tranny oil cooler is a "block plate" held on with 2 10mm bolts, remove that and you can get to the TC bolts, then remove the plastic "plug" just below that so you can insert your barring tool.
Yes, but that will require two people, one to turn the alt. nut and one to watch the alignment mark at the bottom of the bell housing. If you did not know, there is a little mark in the bottom of the bell housing. Once the sheild is removed look into the opening, on the inside bottom, there is a little "arrow" that you line up with the bolt lug on the TC, this will put one of the other lug/bolt into the window where youjust remove the plate, so you can get your socket onto the bolt. I have probably confused you, but get a good light and check it out, you will figure it out.
TC bolts
I didn't use a barring tool to rotate the crank although it would make the job easier. I am sure I put a socket on the pulley end of the crank. I could see the TC bolts through the access hole as I rotated the crank. Good luck with your removal!

I cant budge either of those bolts ,they are so stripped it isnt even funny.I know what you mean about the bolts lining up I think. You can see where they mount when you take the lower cover off.I cant believe these bolts up above the barring plug, this is rediculous.Im ready to quit, let dtt do it,light the truck on fire or cut the heads off with the plasma.i guess Im gonna take the cooler off above so i can get a better hold of them. Thanks Mcmopar
I had a hard time with those bolts too, I had to tap them with a hammer a few times to loosten them up.
and to turn the engine over I simply used a pry bar on the teeth of the flywheel through the acess cover on the bottom.

good to hear guys, thanks I just may cut those off, plus i have a plasma machine anyways.i knew i wasnt the first guy to deal with those bolts being a pain in the ****,should be easy to drill them like aussie said.Anyways guys thanks alot ,but im using a hanes manual ,which is very generic. What are the steps to follow once youve got the starter and driveshafts out?the t case next then take off the tc to flexplate bolts?
