transmission line removal

I have searched on this subject. I am trying to replace my transmission line from the heat exchanger to the cooler. My probelm is the quick connect. After looking through other posts, it seems that the rubber hose with the quick connect doesn't seem to have the tabs to press to release it. Am I missing something? This is for a 97 btw.

Not sure with the 97, but the older ones had little C-clips that you had to remove, not the tabs

You need this type of tool to push in the locking tabs. Remember they are "quick connect" fittings, not "quick dis-connect" fittings.

Thanks JBody, Can I pick those up at a local auto parts place or are they a specialty item?

You should be able to get them at any auto parts store. I think even K-Mart had them.

These little plastic tools just make the job POSSIBLE, they don't make it easy

Thanks guys for the help. I got the line swapped! I ended up using one of those multi tools for the Ford A/C lines. It was a pain, I think TTHA33 summed it up best.

I must be living right - when I went to change my lines out all I did was reach up and squeeze the plastic "ears" on each end and they popped loose.

Now, getting the threaded fittings to line up and start was an entirely different matter......

You were replacing the funky prone to fail old style connectors, on a '97 they are different and require a tool.

Chrysler also offers a direct threaded flare style to eliminate ALL quick connects.
