fuel line removal, stuck
help, I am replaceing fuel lines today. Squeezed the green tab on quick connect at tank. Line slides about 1/2 inch and hangs up. Won't come off any further. What do i need to do now. I dont want to pull any harder. I don't want to damage where the metal line goes into the tank. Push it back on and cut the plastic line and connect there? Any help will be appriciated.
Thanks in advance!!

There should be two tabs on the quick connect if I remember correctly, are you pushing both of them it. I had the same issue and I was not getting then tabs pushed in far enough. My truck is a 98.

Yes, one one each side of connector. pushed them both in, pulled the line and it slides part way off, 1/2 inch or so then stops and hangs up. Feels like it is still butting up against something inside the connector. Squeezed both tabs as much as i could somemore but it still wont 'completely come off.

Just a plain ole guy
When I changed my line, I remember that part being tough too. I think I had to use a small screwdriver to help it along. Are you lifting your bed? It's not that bad. You may have to to get a better hold on it.

Sometimes small bits of foreign material get in there behind the tabs and won't let them compress fully. Try pushing it back on and using brake cleaner to spray any debris out. ( use the small tube to direct the spray.)

Thanks for the help. I used a little screw driver for extra pry and it popped off. That was the feed line. The return line, I couldn't get to the tabs, feed line output in the way. I just cut the plastic pipe and put the return hose on it and clamped it. Anyone think this was a bad idea? Should I have gone the extra mile and tried to get the conector off so I could use the metal stub instead of the plastic line?

Those quick connects suck.

I use some WD40 or Mopar rust penetrant on fittings first sometimes dirt gets into the connector and makes it hard to come apart.

I hope the hard plastic line I clamped to doesn't collapse or doesn’t leak. I will probably try again with the connector another day. I too am working on gravel and now it’s raining. Otherwise it’s all in, front to back both lines. Next is pumping air into the tank and bleeding system.
Thanks again for advice and help.

Some parts cleaner and an air hose is good to blast dirt and funk out. I find if you push the line forward, towards the steel line and then push the two clips it helps to come off. Don't ask why but when I do it that way it always seems so much easier.
