Tranny upgrade

I'm thinking of upgrading my tranny to add some additional HP and TQ. Do I need to replace my entire tranny if I plan on getting up into the 400 HP range or can I get by with an aftermarket rebuild kit and TC? Also I know its been discussed on here before but is it normal to have some tranny slipage when gradually increasing speed when shifting into overdrive on an auto tranny. It happens between 45 and 60 mph. Any help on both of these issues is greatly appreciated.

Call Stefan at DTT, he'll give you your options without trying to sell you something you don't need.

Best thing to do is start calling around. HTS, DTT, Goerend, or ATS. Tell them what you want to make for HP and what you do with your truck. If you plan on making 450+ HP, or the trans you have now is tired, then you'll need a full trans.

my vote is Dusty @

Not normal....but are you sure it's slippage? Could it be low rpm, lugging the motor by shifting into OD too early?

OD on the 47RE tranny is a tall gear.. .68 ratio!(taller than 5th on 5 speed or even 6th on a 6 speed) I keep OD locked out till 55 or 60, so I'm 1500+ rpm after the shift into OD. Sure pulls better. You might try this and see if your tranny behaves differently.

It sure does feel like slippage to me but I could just be the motor lugging. It only does it around 55 mph when excelerating slowly. Is there any way to increase HP that I can do without buying anything to put on the truck?

Nope, unlike the 12 valves there's no free mods. You could pull the silencer ring out of the turbo, it wont add a hp, but it makes the turbo sound good

I already pulled the silencer ring out. This trucks alot different than my 95 as far as upgrades goes. What do you think its gonna cost me to get to the 400 hp range and still have a dependable rig? What are my options? Thanks for the help.

Yup! That's sounds like the feeling I was refering to. At 55 mph in OD you're well below 1500 rpm. To me it feels just like a gas motor when it's missing.

400 HP = Edge Comp and medium injectors (100 hp)... new $1300, used in the Classified...
Edge Comp = $400.00+
Injectors = 400-500. There is a great buy ion some BD injectors there now... https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...1&cat=8&page=2

Those two items will put at 400 HP, but I would do your tranny first...and gauges!

So can I get by on a suncoast TC with that much HP and those exact upgrades or do I need a whole new tranny?
