Question Tranny oil cooler removal for twins?

Just wonder what some of you all have done with a aftermarket cooler or just blocked it off and not have one, does it get to hot like sitting in traffic and stuff. Thanks

I added aftermarket 40K cooler under the radiator, after a yr of using just the one out front. If you drive in any kind of traffic or slow speeds you need to add a coole,or relocate the stocker. If i had it to do over i would just move the stock one,and lenthen the heater hoses to it.The trans runs too cool here in NY winters until i get working it plowing.

There has been lots of discussion on this topic ( some even started by me ) and I have done it on both my trucks. I could not keep check on the temps in traffic with the converters I had with out the factory heat exchanger. Also on cold days on the hwy with the converter locked the temps would be to cold. Here is a picture of mine relocated up under the rad support.

There is a pic of the other cooler in my photos
I run from the trans to the HE in the pic to a B&M 1.5x8x11 plate cooler in the place of the stock tube and fin cooler in front of the rad, then to a fan mounted 1.5x12x12 B&M plate cooler mounted under the box then back to the tranny. This is all plumbed with -10 single wire hyd hose for a little extra capacity . I have found this combo to be the most effective for how I use the truck. The bed cooler is mainly to aid in cool down at the track but I have found myself using it in heavy stop and go traffic. IMO spend the time relocating it and your tranny will be happier.

I run a 16 pass Derale tranny cooler with fan under the bed in place of the heat exchanger. I drive in bumper to bumper traffic every day and the temps are not much higher then using the factory heat exchanger. I will add that I do not tow with this truck.

I did one setup like that and said "never again". It's so much easier to move it up front, it's cheaper and the lines are shorter/better.

brandon.
