Track Bar replacement
Track Bar replacement
Just got this truck a little over a week ago and am going to replace the track bar. Well, my being cheap took me to a well known auction site and found a MOOG sale New in Box. Descript said 94-97. There being only a few hours left on the auction and I would not have the chance to check it before it ended, I put a bid on it.
. I didn't want to spend much this time, but I plan on getting the conversion to the 03 track bar once the wife wouldn't mind spending more money on something we just got.
Well, now I actually take the part number given, DS-1256 and go to a MOOG reseller site and search. That part number is only for the 94 model built before Feb 04.
My question, what is the difference between the two and why did they change so quick off the line?
I still have yet to pay for the auction and hopefully the guy will understand that he put the wrong descript for the part he has for sale.

I can't help with the fitment, but I can advise to get one of the conversion bars ASAP. I bought a new Napa track bar about 8000 miles ago. I rarely tow, and the few times I have has been light trailers (under 6000 lbs.). I checked my track bar a couple days ago and the ball and socket are loosening up already! I'm licensed to do state inspections, and technically, this bar wouldn't pass inspection 8000 miles after installing it!!! I'm going to buy one of the newer bars and make my own bracket for it before this bar is completely gone.

Thanks for the info. I will talk with the dealer to figure out if it fits. I plan on getting the conversion, but since I just got the truck, the wife won't let me spend much on it right now. I am hoping to get by for a couple of months, then get the conversion and the 03 bar. Thanks a bunch.

It bolts to the front axle on the passenger side of the truck, and runs up by the differential and bolts to the frame on the drivers side of the truck. There is a Zerk fitting on the drivers side.

IIRC, the early 94's used the same track bar as the 1/2 ton, it's a smaller ball joint on the track bar end.
Way cheaper to go with the Thuren stock replacement track bar and it's a direct bolt in, no drilling required.
