What is the Silencer Ring?
The silencer ring..
that is simply a little ring in the turbo that reduces the turbo whistle. It can be easily removed, and its removal does not give a performance increase... But it makes your turbo sound be heard much clearer
Your 2001 as all rams come with it.. To remove it, its simple.. Get a couple of screwdrivers, flatt, to be exact, and there is a little snap ring that holds the ring in the turbo housing. THIS IS ON THE VER EDGE of the round part of the turbo, NOT NEAR the impeller blades.. got me? Anyways, simply find that ring, and be warned it is tricky to remove, what i did was shove one screwdriver in and use another one to slowly work out the ring from the turbo. Once it snaps off, then u just pull out the silencer ring and thats that..
If you have your stock airbox, and you want even MORE TURBO WHISTLE
and we know you do he he he he,
remove the little sleeve that connects the airbox to the passenger wheel fender... easy and all this usually takes less than 10 minutes silencer ring to box work, Anyways removal of the sleeve is easy, you simply remove the filter, and then look for the sleeve and just pull it out..
PS welcome to DTR!!!

About 1/4 of the way down there is a picture of the silencer ring.

Mine's still in the glove box, after I removed it. Thought I would wait and see if the wife complained about the extra noise
, but she hasn't said anything. Guess I can take it out of the pickup and throw it in a drawer in the garage.
