Track bar replacement.

Greetings,

I've been gone (again) for a while here, but I'm back and now it's time for a track bar replacement for my '99 3500 CTD, and I've always received plenty of good help and info here.

The truck wanders a bit going down the road, and a visual shows the track bar end is wallered out.

-Does anybody have any suggestions (other than power-wash, then R&R the part) for me before I get started?

-Is there anything that I need to be concerned about, or aware of before I do the work?

-Should I replace the tie-rod-end and pitman arm also while I'm down there? (it's only $180 more for parts). They are a little loose also.

Thanks in advance for your imput.

Pete

Re:Track bar replacement.

The trac bar end is known to wear -- I got 2,000 miles on one before it was nearly out of spec again. Do yourself a favor and install a DT track bar -- the ends are $50 and you can then change them more often without expense every time.

As for the tie rod ends, yea, get lukes link.

Re:Track bar replacement.

Hi,
What is a "DT" track bar? The one on my 1998 is ready to be replaced for the second time at 94,000.

Thanks
Phil

Best trac bar solution known to man (IMHO). looks similar to the 03 design.

Re:Track bar replacement.

i just put a DT trac bar in my 99 last weekend its probally been the best spent money i have put towards my truck so far! pretty easy install and truck doesent wander from side to side anymore! i also installed a darins steering brace im really not sold on what it actually does after putting it on and no real change in the sloppy stearing! after an alighnment and tires blanaced ill say whether the brace was worth it or not.

Re:Track bar replacement.

the DSS will save your steering box. What i like about the DSS is the outboard bearing that takes the stresses off of the steering box and puts them out to the frame rails. If it were not for trading my 02 in for an 04, I would do exactly as you and put both the DT and the DSS on.
