towing power
Hi.. I am new to the deisel truck thing i have a 98 24v the problen i have is it looses power very badly on hills on the interstate while towing a 8000lb trailer. If you push on the pedal just a little it will try to go push more and it makes no differance. I went up a long grade 7 miles 7% grade and ran it in 3rd and ran it at 2300rpm's and it did fine. then i found out if you floor it in 3rd and run it up to say 2500 it will tow great on hills for a ways. you can tell buy the way the motor sounds snd feels it got alot more power and you can hear the turbo sound more this truck is all stock but the resanator has been removed but thas all. any ideas....thanks
Get fuel pressure, boost, trans temp. and a pyro[pre turbo]. Having the guages will tell you alot about whats going on under the hood. That would be the best money you will spend. Then you will know how much boost pressure along with the rest of the readings.
You really need to get all 3 gauges (fuel, boost and egt) hooked up before we could make any educated suggestions on what you should do. I am shocked you would tow that heavy with out a egt gauge. As mentiond above, RV275's an EZ and a good air intake..i would throw a good exhaust on too, would be a great towing truck. In fact I ran that exact setup and could pull 8k lbs up any grade at just about any speed I chose with no problems....but I would have never done it with out gauges

I HAD the same problem pulling my trailer..stock. Now, check my signature for mods....everything helped. The Van Aaken is another option to the Edge EZ - both good from what I've heard. Now, I can keep 70mph (and perhaps even gain speed) going up hills with my trailer (8k enclosed) behind me. Much more enjoyable towing experience.
May try injectors next.
