towing

I have a 1998 dodge 2500 with a auto transmission and was wondering how others tow with it on hills up and down what gear 2 or 3 what rpm they shift Etc. and has anyone changed out the transmission for a Alison or something else if so what size and cost . Also am towing 26Ft Komfort 5er with slide. thank you very much.

welcome to DTR , you might want to post this in the towing section.as for me i tow in the gear that doesnt over heat the trans and never tow anything heavy in O/D. as for the allison it can be done ...but how much $ do you want to spend? if you want a HD trans call DTT

On my gramps old 95 auto with 4.10s, hauling 12000 pounds of water it can start hunting for gears, I usually lock out overdrive and let the auto do its thing.

I think there are people who have swapped in allisons but you would be way better off getting your own tranny beefed up by DTT or someone

Agree! I would go DTT, because they are in your area. There are other good options, all about the same price...but DTT is one of the very best...and near by is always an advantage.

Call them and take their free truck survey. They understand it's a major decision and do not expect you to buy on your first call in!

I would definately go DTT before I ever considered the Allison.....and fill in your signature so your truck info shows at bottom of each posting. If your a 24v truck...you have a 98.5 CTD.
