Tow Question
Towing with a htt 62x12 not sure of the wheel size, Truck has a #10 fuel plate. This is a friend of mines truck, Pump has been turned up and timing advanced, but he is seeing highier egts around 1300 or so and stock turbo was alot less, 1000 to 1100 with a load. turbo is holding 40 psi of boost and has alot or surging. He is not very Happy.

NO kidding he's not happy because he's got a turbo with a cold side too big, a hot side too small, and it's operating off it's map.
A turbo that would work well for this guy is something like a BD Super B or S300G-- the 57mm inducer class turbos.
I'd keep it around 35psi.

And yet i tow with a 64/71/.8 over 75/83/1.1 and have no issues. Maybe it's something else. I have read many posts from people that are towing with the HTB2 and are very happy with it. The 57mm s300 was the only turbo i ever tried that totally failed as a secondary charger. I wouldn't give $2 for a brand new one. Look for a creeping wastegate first. Pull off the wastegate cover and hook the actuator up to a regulated air source. Check to make sure one flap isn't opening up early. Is it getting hot right off the bat and then not coming down once the boost goes up? Or is it getting hot only on the top end. Did he do the mods after he took off the stock turbo, or is it an apples to apples comparison between the 35 and the HTB2?

He's not looking for a top charger-- he's looking for something closer to a stocker's performance, from what I can tell as a *single*.
Am I misreading the original post?

My point was that my setup is more of a miss match for towing than his HTB2and I don't see any of his symptoms There are many people running the HTB2 and I think it is possible that his problem might be wastegate related rather than turbo choice. It is not a costly process to check out the wastegate to make sure it is seating properly and working correctly. It can be expensive to sell it and purchase another charger. If he is hitting 40 with this, he may be above the range of an HTBG.(not hard to do)
