Will using the TAG2 with the silincer ring removed make the turbo louder? For some reason that crossed my mind because instead of the air being swivel'd around it goes straight into the inlet. .......Just a crazy idea.

The air being swirled around is the reason for the silencer ring in keeping it quieter.
If anything tag without the ring would be quieter.
The tag isn't for people who like to hear turbo whine.

Well I started out planning to test the TAG II against the TAG I and no TAG but couldn't stand the doggy truck and turbo in the glovebox sound so skipped the no TAG part after 20 miles. The TAG is mod you don't notice much when you put it on but when you take it off, big difference.
My truck is 12 valve, 350hp with Scotty air intake. Drove 840 miles crossing the Continental Divide four times, mixed interstate and two lane, half TAG I the other half TAG II. Saw 1.2 mpg higher with TAG II but admit it wasn't enough miles to be real conclusive. Egts were slightly lower with TAG II as was boost. What really impressed me was my intake air temp as measured at the air horn was a consistent 4° lower with TAG II. This a lot when you consider with TAG I the intake temp is almost always a steady 20° higher than the outside temp, TAG II brought it down to 16° which is 20% lower. This indicates to me the turbo isn't working as hard with the II vs. the 1. Cool down times should be shorter also.
My Conclusions
I wouldn't be without a TAG just because the turbo whine drives me nuts on a long drive and spool up is so much faster. Both TAGs do an excellent job with both. The TAG is subtle mod, you're not going to see big jumps in anything from it but what it will do is allow is folks who don't like a noisy truck to use a freer flowing, cold air filter such as a Scotty without bringing the turbo noise into the cab. The filter will result in substantial egt drop.
My opinion is if you already have a TAG I don't bump up to a TAG II, but if you don't have a TAG at all go with the II. If you like turbo whine don't do anything except plan on getting a hearing aid when you're older.

No problem at all Del. I disconnected the intake tube from both the Scotty and turbo, popped in the TAG then got the turbo end started on correctly before attaching the Scotty. If you tried to line it up wrestling with the weight of the Scotty on the end of the hose it might be more difficult.
It seemed to me that since the TAG II is so much bigger than the 1 it would have little chance of moving.
My TAG 1 was in so good after 6+ months that I had to pry it out of the rubber tube with a screwdriver.

great write-up Bill. The lower intake air temps are helping with the increased mileage and decreased EGT's and decreased cool down times. I know that Dave Meheen is also running a gauge to monitor the intake air temps on his truck and also saw a reduction in temps.

I’m sure we’ll see many other improvements from it’s use as time goes on such as when towing, but wanted to get some info out right away. My preliminary feeling is it’s great new mod.
