steering wheel play???

ok my steering wheel has alot of play in it compared to my sisters 1500 and i want mine tighter like hers. i was looking at http://www.solidsteel.ca/DSS.htm to fix the problem now i have searched this and have found it to be a bandaid or the fix to our steering. i see that it will work with my lift but i also see that i should look into a psc steering box as an upgrade also will ths really help all that much in tighting up my wonder and steering wheel play

You can adjust your steering play on the top of the box with an allen wrench. Out to tighten clearances and in to loosen them. I ended up getting a borgeson steering shaft and I could never get the box adjusted right. If you want something cheaper than psc I recoment http://www.benchworksteering.com/ they are a local (for me) company for me who I found to be very knowledgeable about our crappy factory steering boxes. My box had been abused by manny different terrains and large tires for a while and is holding up very nicely.

The sector shaft can be adjusted by removing the I-shaft off of the steering box. Removing the lock nut and tightening the adjuster ring with a spanner wrench (two small diameter punches can be used instead of the wrench). I found it to make a significant improvement in reducing play.

Are you sure its the steering box? The track bar is a notorious problem on these trucks. Also could be ball joints or tie-rods.

I second the track bar being the problem. Going from a factory part to a moog bar on my 1998 made a huge difference in steering feel.

Also, look on ebay. There is an AGR steering box for sale. Will definitely tighten up the ratio of our boxes.

I would try adjusting steering gear box first(just don't overtighten allen screw), then if that does not improve it, check your steering shaft, and front end for loose or damaged parts. Steering boxes do need to be adjusted infrequently to remove sector shaft wear(which causes loose steering), especially if it is 2-3 years and with lots of miles.

To tell you the truth I am not sure, it was 3 years ago. When I bought my truck, I had a box of aftermarket parts that were never installed so I just put it on anyways.
