Starwheel without gauges?

I know, I know. But I wanna make sure I'm not gonna burn the turbo or blow the truck up. Will I be ok turning the starwheel up without putting gauges in? I don't plan on doing anything else BOMB wise until the gauges are in, I just want a lil more smoke for now.

I had the starwheel turned up all the way to the edge of the access hole (fairly loose from what I could tell) the other day and the truck would still only smoke when I first started it. No smoke even under hard acceleration so I backed it off again. Could this be an indication of a fuel system problem?

If I have to move the AFC to get more I'll just leave the wheel alone until I get the gauges and grind the plate...

Yeah i agree with the above but it would not be a bad idea to get gauges just so you can watch what everything is doing.

I agree, you should be alright, but also you can never be too careful...You're going to get bitten by the Bombing Bug, Vicious Circle it is.

Oh that bug bit me HARD the day I drove the truck home. But I just want a little more out of it. The gauges are on the way as soon as the little issues (KDP, timing cover gasket, steering and brakes) are fixed.

How much will my fuel economy suffer with the starwheel and AFC adjustments? I'm also planning a #10 plate. Will getting the timing bumped balance this out?

Mileage will be most affected by timing.. Well, and your right foot. As far as highway MPG, it won't change even if you had no fuel plate. The engine only uses what it needs. Now if you tell it you need all the fuel all the time, then your mileage will suffer...LOL..

Tires get to be more of a problem than fuel economy..
