south bend confusion please help

hello all,
I have an 01 dually mildly modified and my clutch began slipping last night so Ive been surfin around this morn. tryin to come up with an economical solution. It seems most of you's like southbend so thats what ive been lookin at.I live in wooster ohio and have some friends that work at the local LUK plant and they have told me not to ever get a LUK replacement clutch cuz they suck ??? Any how I pull a tri axle 5th wheel toy hauler approx.15 to 18K lbs and drive the truck daily 70 miles to work and back so driveability is an issue.Since my truck is an HO 6 speed does that mean it has a 13" clutch or is it the 12.25?Im thinkin the con fe is the one I want cuz the ofe is a 13" conversion right or am I not seein somthin here?

I believe the early 2001 HO trucks have the 12.25" clutch and the later 2001 (2001.5) and 2002 trucks have the 13" clutch. Maybe your dealer can tell you which one you need by the VIN.

Another design improvment that happened about the same time was the change from rear drum brakes to disc brakes. I am not sure that both occured at the same time, so the brake observation might not define which clutch you have.

I'm purdy sure you got a 13" flywheel. If your going southbend, I would say an OFE would do ya great. That's what I have and it works awesome. it will hold to 450hp and 1000Lbs-tq. my OFE is just as smoth as a stock clutch.

HAAP, i believe your thinking about the 2000 SO 6 speed with the 1 1/4 shaft and the smaller clutch

presovtr, you have the 13 inch clutch. some on here are running the LUK, ill let them chime in on that subject.

Southbend is A+! call up peter and he will set you up with exactly what you need. hes aka as south bend clutch on here.

BLACK DIESEL is probably right about all HO trucks having a 13" clutch. But I believe the early 2001 trucks have a 1 1/4" shaft and the 2001.5 and 2002 trucks have the 1 3/8" shaft. I am pretty sure a clutch change occured mid 2001, so we still don't know what clutch is needed.

It was the 2000 model 6 speed trucks that had the 1-1/4" input shaft and 12.25" clutch. All 2001's were HO engines, and had the 1-3/8" input shaft, and 13.125" clutch!

If you pull heavy, get the OFE...if you need the extra power handling, you'll need to go Double Disc!!

Personally, I think the OFE would be fine if you're not going any farther on your mods!!

Remember 2 things...1.Peter will shoot you straight, and not sell you what you don't need IF YOU"RE HONEST WITH HIM about your power/plans!!! And 2. The FE's are grabbier than the OFE's

Call Peter and get his opinion!
