solid steel 3rd gen. adjustable track bar

I installed one of these on my truck 2 or 3 weeks ago, but unfortunately the clunking thru my steering wheel. Had a buddy start the truck and work the wheel back and forth while I watched the front end. I noticed over 1/8" of movement (deflection) in the track bar bushings, which I'm pretty sure are polyurethane. I've rechecked the mounting hardware, and everything is still tight, torqued to their specs. Is this normal? I didn't think a poly bushing would move that much.

Are you getting a weird vibration around 42-45mph and again around 70-72mph?

no, no vibration. Just a clunk thru my steering wheel. I'm not saying that the trackbar has anything to do with that (rag joint in my steering shaft has a lot of play in it), but that much play in the bushings kinda concerned me.

An 02 shouldn't have a rag joint. It should be a u-joint shaft. They are infamous for making noise too. Braking hard and accelerating hard feel it in the wheel and also quick, short turns in the wheel. Have a buddy reach under the hood and shake the steering shaft while you hold onto the wheel and see if it is the same "feel".

It has like a rubber disk right below the upper u/joint....I assumed this was a rag joint.

I can't remember right off hand, but I was pretty sure that the rag joint shafts had the pin box at the bottom and rag joint at top. If you have u-joints top and bottom, I can't think of what that rubber disc is!? Maybe......

My buddy's 98 12v has the same set up as mine too, so I'm sure its something they put on them from the factory.

Didn't Dodge change to the U-joint in '03?
