Smarty in

well i got my smarty in today. i expected a little more, like my tranny slipping, egt temps in the 1400-1600 range. i could barely get 1225 deg at WOT and i mean WOT! and more smoke. i got a little bit more smoke, but not enough. I am still very pleased, just wish i would have bought 100hp or 75hp nozzles . my tranny does not mind SW#9 at all, max temp i saw was 160-170deg at test port #2.
i m ready for questions

Yes i did, i was very pleased but expected more, like i described. people on here made it sound like SW#9 would be too much for a stock tranny. so when i got it, i put it on SW#5 and this only felt a little bit stronger than my SUPERCHIPS, that sucks so much(coming from most people on DTR). the way figured SW#5 or SW#7 should have been plenty with my injectors. it wasnt i ride around on SW#9 and want a little more (like always). even when i talked to Rip Rook at source automotive, he said a smarty would be a all my little Hy35 could handle heat wise. well like i said i could only get 1225deg at WOT! i wanted something that i would have to let off after a while or turn down smarty. so next week i will be ordering some 100hp jammer tips and trying to sell my 1 week old 50hp ones. was this enough? i got more just ask . i m not complaining, just expected alittle more since, i ve been reading about this smarty for at least 6 months if not more.

thanks dieselfan

I think you need to drive around with it for a few weeks then comment. I don't think anybody has said it is a power house, what everyone has been saying is makes the truck way more drive friendly than any other box. Also the nice thing about the Smarty is what it gives to a stock truck is not the same as it give to a modified truck with a TST and Mach 4's. The more you add the more the Smarty gives ya.

ive heard this many times, and i borowed my smarty to a few stock trucks and they were not impressed for the cost of it for what they felt,i think bob stated that a smartys best freind is a good set of injectors,if you get a comp or better yet a tst and try that box by itself then go to software #8 you will be impressed,a smarty on a stock truck doesnt do much, both guys a borowed it to said it revved a bit higher and thats about it,dont be too disapointed,if you get some big sticks or a wire tapping box then try the smarty,it will be nite and day,by itself on a stock truck its kinda lame.

Geez Dave your Smarty must be busted if they couldn't tell the difference between SW9 and stock, it makes a world of difference on my truck.

duallydave, whats a good size injector 75hp or 100 hp? and still reasonable egt temps. i cruise around at 500 to 650 range at 65mph with 50hp injectors and smarty on SW#9.

thanks dieselfan

Not to steal the thread, but hearing this about the smarty on a stock truck, like mine is it actually worth me spending the coin on it? Or should I do other things first, i.e, injectors or should I go with a different box, edge or something?

i think it depends on how far you want to go with your truck. i tell you what, if dodge trucks ran like that stock, they'd sell a hella alot more. get the smarty and injectors. you get better mileage with both. i dont think it matters which one you do first. i wouldnt sell my smarty and don't regret buying it one bit. just expected a little more after reading so much about it. hope this helps.

hey dieselfan, not sure what to recomend for sticks,i went with the bd xxx130s,mostly because they were quite abit cheaper than the others and the bd store is close to me and if i had a problem i could get it fixed fast instead of waiting for shipping and such, and it turned out i did have a problem and they fixed it riteaway with good service, anyway back on topic,my 130s with the smarty on 9 with no comp get kinda hot,i only tow my 4k 5th wheel a few times a year and ive seen 1100 in the hills i seen that high on fuel saver mode too,i went back to stock for the trip home and was close to 950-1000,the truck runs wicked on 9 with no comp so i leave it there, and i love my sticks, very smooth idle and excellent power and not alot of smoke until i got the smarty,so im not sure what to tell you,if you get some 75-100s and you get bored in a week or get some 150 plus and run hot all the time, maybe some other guys will share thir temps
