Does absolutely nothing for power. All it does is make the turbo whistle less.

I did mine Saturday.Loosen the intake tube hose clamp (the tube that runs from from the air cleaner box to the turbo) and pull it off of the front of the turbo. There will be a circle clip holding the silencer in place. Use a thin screwdriver to pry the clip away from the turbo. The ring should now be loose enough to be pulled out. Make sure you put the tube back on straight and tighten the clamp. And voila! Your CTD sounds like a Mack truck!

silencer ring removal can be a *****. Have he proper tools available to be able to get into the area. I tried to remove mine but was not sucessful. i needed a 90' pick to get under the ring. Using 2 screw drivers is not always the answer. Want better performance and turbo whistle? Install a Cold air intake. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting Check this one I bought on ebay for $228 delivered to the house. Great performance and the engine can finally breathe. Comes with all of the parts needed for installation, and i did it in about an hour.

One regular size flat screwdriver to remove the air intake from the turbo, then one small flat screwdriver to pry out the retaining ring, the silencer ring will then fall out into your hand. Simple.

You don't need to buy anything. One regular and one small flathead and ten minutes of your time and its done. And it sounds a whole lot better.

i used the free ones you get from the snap-on guy. they work great because they are small.

This task appears to be easier for some. It can be very frustrating if you think it will just fall out and it doesn't. This isn't something you should just rip out in anger. The advise to use picks is a good one. I used a 90 degree pick and a hook pick to get mine out...the more frustrated I got, the more the snap ring slipped off the pick. Take your time...stay calm...and it is easy. Take out the ring and use an aftermarket intake and it will scream.
