rustproofing
rustproofing
I've seen all kinds of stuff for rustproofing, and don't know if I should do it. I opted not to do it at the ******* when I got it, but have seen a bunch of ads for Ziebart. I've also heard there are DIY options. Has anyone done this, and what are your thoughts on DIY vs. shop done jobs, and cost on either option. I've noticed some rust :'(, and would like to get all this taken care of before I get into a WA winter. Thanks all.

-SFB
Re:rustproofing
SFB I have a buddy that just retired from an auto factory in detroit. He told me that the vehicles come with a warranty regarding corrosion. He states that the vehicle has "weep" holes for the water to drain properly and avoid rust. By spraying any product on it, you take the risk of plugging these holes as well as trapping contaminates that will then be able to start the rusting process. He also states these could in fact void your warranty.

I do not know if this is entirely true but as for myself I think keeping it clean is more important than adding an after market product.
Re:rustproofing
I've read something to the same effect. Since there's rust on some stuff underneath, I'd like to buff it off and add some kind of "antirust" thing and keep it off. I suppose I'd prefer a DIY sort of product so I could make sure those weep holes stay unplugged. Given this, the driveshaft has some rust on it. Could I buff it off and then apply some antirust coating on it?

-SFB
Re:rustproofing
I'd worry about throwing off the balance of the driveshaft by putting any sort of rustproofing on it, if by rustproofing you mean the kind of thick, gooey stuff usually sprayed on for that purpose. You might be OK with some clear lacquer or something.
