Removing the injectors........
Removing the injectors........
Per the service manual, or is there an alternate way ??
Per the manual, it says:
*Thread rod from special tool number 8318 into the top of the injector.
*Tighten nut on tool number 8318 to pull fuel injector from cylinder head.
Do I need this tool ?? Is there a different way to do this, or to make my own tool ??
How about the Valve cover gasket ?? Is this reusable, or should I just get a new one ?? It says that it can be reused, but I'd like your advise on that one since these gaskets are $ 109.oo !!!!!!!!!! HOLY CARP !!!!!
Thanks !!

when you pull your injectors you will see the bolt that is at the rear of the engine on each injector hold down clamp....don't even bother with it just pull the front one and it will pop out, use the short bolt from the intake/grid heater and thread it into the injector, curved pliers-crows foot bar-claw hammer something of this sort prying from the rocker arm will make it easy. when you get to the rear one I put the boly in and pry up on the bolt with a screwdriver pushed into the valvespring, it is tight back there! make sure to loosen you clamps and get the rear lifting bracket out of the way first. your valve cover gasket should survive if you are nice to it, put a piece of card board or similar on the v.c. before you pull it to save the insulation from getting thrash and the engine getting dirt in it. the cardboard is just there to act as a buffer between the vc and the trucks insulation when you pull it and replace it. you can make it easier on yourself by pulling the vc bolts out of the vc.
Don't worry it is a piece of cake once you are rollin'
good luck

I just called cummins and they told me I could get a red cap valve cover for $109, are you sure about that price?
