Rain-X warning
Found out the hard way today at the glass shop if you use Rain-X window products it is impossible to do chip repair. You're stuck with replacing the glass as the Rain-X is near impossible to get off and the repair compound won't stick.
I've been using Rain-X on my vehicles for over 10 years ... have had several windshield dings repaired and never an issue
Sure would like to know why they told you that .... ( hope it wasn't some tech that doesn't like the product) and I'd liike to see some documentation that states same. I deal with a glass Co here on a weekly basis getting new windshields installed in customer trucks .... I will ask them about this .... and see if they have any solid info.

I did a search for RainX and window repair, only thing I found was this-
"RainX is some durable stuff. The window repair guy was out to fix a stone chip a few weeks ago and he said, "There's only one thing that makes my job hell - RainX." He said it's nearly impossible to remove, so I told him about the #0000 steel wool trick and we tried it on my windshield... He could tell that there was still a little RainX residue, but he said it helped tremendously (and then bought my remaining 5 #0000 steel wool pads from me for $5)."

I think this trick might be ok if the chip came after the RainX but if it happened before the RainX it would be down inside the chip and near impossible to get at.
